A short mention of the history of the brand Atlas

The company was born in Unna in 1910. In fact, the ATLAS® Schuhfabrik has a really long history. In the early days, the company was simply called “Unna shoe factory”, and only counted 16 employees, who were active on the building’s three floors. Each floor played an important role in the factory. The sewing, the cutting and the assembly took place on the first floor. On the other hand, the ground floor, that today houses the current shop, was the metal processing and sales department.

Initially, the company could produce up to 80 pairs of shoes per day, enough to be defined an excellent production volume. However, today Atlas can manufacture over 7000 pairs of safety shoes in a day.

Upon reaching the 50th anniversary, Atlas counted as many as 63 employees, and boasted a daily production of 400 pairs of shoes. 14 years later, the factory changed its core production centre, opening a new production plant in Dortmund-Wickede in 1974.

What distinguishes the safety footwear trademark Atlas from the other brands?

The company based in Dortmund is one of the leading manufacturers of safety footwear in Europe. Every year, they produce as many as 2,2 million pairs of safety shoes with innovative technology. The firm has a team of more than 250 employees who guarantee the extremely elevated production volumes without any problem.

As a specialist in the field of safety footwear with many years of experience, Atlas develops high-quality products, safe and specific for each sector. Each footwear coming from this factory is of the highest-quality and is adapted to the needs of the numerous clients. In 2018, the production and storage area were increased to 30.000 square meters, allowing to store up to 500.000 pairs of safety shoes. In this way, the optimised logistic supply can serve customers in every part of the world.

The leather pieces of their safety footwear are made in Brazil. The factories are situated in Lajeado and in Bom Retiro, university towns on the borders with Argentina. Today the brand has reached unmatched goals of product quality and value. Their products have high standards, in order to protect workers in the workplace and to guarantee they have comfortable equipment of the latest technology. As a result, the company only uses high-quality leather for their products.

Robert Frog
I was born in London in 1975 and still live here. I could define myself, summing up in a few words my long working career, a great expert in the field of foot and foot problems. Immediately after graduating in Motor Science I started working in an orthopaedics in which orthotics were made to measure for people with foot problems. In 1999 I was hired as Key Account Manager in a well-known chain of safety footwear and other personal protective equipment. Among my clients I had several industries, which I visited regularly to understand the needs of workers, both in terms of protection and comfort. During these years I have consolidated my knowledge on foot problems. Furthermore, I studied carefully the products I proposed: attending courses, participating in trade fairs and, often, accepting the invitation of manufacturers to visit the factories. I was thus able to observe closely the techniques and materials used to produce the best safety shoes. Since 2015 I have been collaborating with the PPE Academy for the content of Safety Shoes Today.
